~ 1 ~ The awareness came slowly as Jonah Fairburn grew. Most of the feelings came to him in his dreams of floating souls, which he had quite regularly. For the first fourteen years of his life, he didn’t know what they meant. His parents told him that dreams were strange things. The things God had given him in his sleep, but not in any particular order. A puzzle for him to figure out. They believed this because they were both quite religious, they thought that dreams were God’s way of talking to us. He loved his parents and they loved him. He had no reason to doubt them, so that was what he believed. His parents, Michael and Sheila Fairburn, were Catholics, so that’s what Jonah became. Every Sunday morning since he could remember, they went to mass. They all sat together and listened and prayed. But in all that time, Jonah never really heard God speaking to him.
